Last night I had the grand idea to use one of those vending machine dvd rental things. Basically it looks like any other vending machine, you swipe your card and instead of soda or candy you get a dvd rental for about $1.50.

My friend scoffed at the idea of renting “a dollar movie” but my first attempt to use one was a success and so I rented another one thinking nothing of it.

I ended up choosing “Under the Same Moon” which is a movie about a young boy who makes his way across the border (yes, illegally) to find his mother who is living in Los Angeles. The young boy, Adrian Alonso, gave an amazing performance. It was a tear jerker. At one point I looked over at my friend and asked incredulously “are you crying?!” “Yes, it’s sad okay!” she snapped. Which I found sickly amusing since in all the time we’ve known each other she has never cried in front of me.

It’s a great movie but I’ll still don’t know what happened in chapters 13 through 16. The person(s) that rented the movie prior to me decided that sometime between moving the dvd from the case to the player it also needed to be rubbed against a scouring pad.

I shrugged and told my friend we’d just have to “use our imaginations” to fill in the blank chapters. We’ll probably just use her movie rental card from now on.
