Two “N’s” please

I have this conversation on a weekly basis it seems:
Other person: “Hi, I emailed you xxxxx.” And haven’t heard back from you. Did you receive my email?”
Me: “Hold on just a sec, let me check. Hmm..no haven’t received it yet. My email address is dianna_hernandez@link.freedom.com My first name actually has two “n’s” in it. That may be why I haven’t received it yet.
Other person: “Oh, okay, I had your name spelled wrong. I’ll try again.”
That usually seems to work.
I’ve noticed recently that my parents and two of my friends’ parents strayed away from traditional spellings of our names by one letter. I think it was an early eighties trend.
There’s Cheyanne whose name I had only ever seen spelled Cheyenne.
And there’s Cortney, who I always tease about lacking a “u.”
I should be clear that I’m not harping on anyone’s parents here. If anything, it just adds to our individuality.
Besides the whole email dilemma the only other reason why my name is troublesome is that I can’t buy any cute tourist stuff like magnets and keychains because they always spell my name wrong.
I do really love my name though. I shared my name with an 80’s icon and in my kiddie years, (since I didn’t know any better) always thought I was kinda cool since Michael Jackson sang that song with my name in it.
Thanks for the great name, Mom and Dad. I know you could have chosen something like “Diyanuh” instead. For that I’m forever indebted to you.

I feel your pain Diana (did that on purpose). As many people know, my daughter’s name is Zoe, but I wanted to spell it “Zoughie”, my wife quickly vetoed that idea.
I was also tortured by a short-sighted naming judgment on my parents part, not just me, but also my older brother.
I was named Mickey, after Mickey Mantle, and my brother (5-years my elder) was named Donald after one of our uncles.
Mickey and Donald, mom and dad?? You’ve got to be kidding me!
With all due respect, Diana (again, did that on purpose) I don’t really feel too bad for you about your name.
Just curious, what’s your middle name?

Yeah there’s a “Kourtni” on “So You Think You Can Dance.”
At least I didn’t end up a Kortney!

While I have a name spelled in a conventional fashion, I always wanted to be named something else because everyone my age was named Jennifer. I think this means that a lot of people are unhappy with their name. You know the grass is always greener. Though, I must say that I literaly laughed out loud at Mickey’s comment.
